Elaine C. Bauman, 87, Pound, died Tuesday, November 8, 2011, peacefully at Bay Area Medical Center. She was born July 15, 1924, in Grover to the late Alfred and Louise (Behnke) Baumann.

Elaine's Foster parents were Meta and Emil Polzin. She married Fred Bauman on May 15, 1948. He preceded her in death on June 21, 2010.

The Baumans enjoyed 62 years of marriage, including trips with friends, George and Marge Brosig, and an egg route delivering to private homes and the old Sonies IGA Grocery Store in Menominee, Mich. They also delivered our local newspaper together, and enjoyed helping at Salewski's vegetable stand. She was an avid gardener, canning and making her delicious bread. She was a member of Pound Homemakers and St. Matthews Ladies Aid. She never drove a car but could drive a tractor.

For one of the Ladies Aid meetings she did not have a ride, so she drove herself to the meeting on a tractor arriving early and parking out of the way so as not to draw attention to herself. Elaine will be remembered for her gracious way of appreciation to those who helped her.

Survivors include two daughters: Jane (Bob) Johnson, Marinette and Linda (Ray) Nasgovitz, Howards Grove; and a son, Gary "Fritz" Bauman, Pound; five grandchildren: Diane, Jeff, Rachel, Jill and Brad; six great-grandchildren: Sasha, Ava, Alex, Olivia, Mae Elaine and Emilia; one brother, Karl (Helen) Baumann, Marinette; one sister-in-law, Doris Kukta, Cudahy; many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Marion Baumann; a brother-in-law, Francis Kukta; two foster sisters: Luella Yoap and Esther Thurow; two foster brothers: Ernest and Walter Polzin.
