CodeRED Emergency Notification System Test Jan. 6

December 14, 2015
Blue Earth County Emergency Management is planning to conduct a county-wide test notification alert on Jan. 6, 2016 at 3 p.m. for its CodeRED Emergency Notification System. The test is part of an “all call” procedure that is done annually for the system that will notify citizens by phone, text or e-mail if they are part of the emergency notification database. Those receiving the alert are asked to take note of the message and to update contact information and preferences for receiving future emergency notifications.

Citizens who do not receive the test message are encouraged to visit the County’s website to sign-up for future emergency notifications, especially those using cellular phones as their main point of contact. More information about the CodeRED system in addition to sign-up instructions for individuals and businesses can be found on the Blue Earth County website at www.blueearthcountymn.gov/CodeRED.

All contact information provided remains private and is only used for emergency notification purposes. Those without internet access can sign-up or modify contact information using computer terminals at any of the three Blue Earth County Library locations in Lake Crystal, Mankato or Mapleton. Additionally, mobile app options and further information about the CodeRED system is available on the Blue Earth County website at www.blueearthcountymn.gov/CodeRED. A phone line at (507) 304-4920 has been established for the public with questions following the test notification being sent.

The CodeRED system was first implemented in Blue Earth County in December 2014 and the County recently updated its account to include CodeRED Weather Warning services. CodeRED Weather Warning is an opt-in only weather warning product that taps into the National Weather Service’s Storm Based Warnings and automatically alerts affected citizens in the path of severe weather just moments after a warning has been issued. Citizens wishing to receive weather warning notifications from CodeRED will need to sign-up for the separate Weather Warning service via the County’s website at www.blueearthcountymn.gov/CodeRED. Only those that sign up for the integrated Weather Warning feature will receive weather-related alerts from the system.

Blue Earth County has utilized the CodeRED system for a total of eight events since the original all-call in December of 2014 to include missing person investigations and warning the public of high-risk police operations in a specific area of Mankato. During one of the missing person investigations, a citizen reported finding property belonging to the subject after receiving the CodeRED public alert. Authorities utilized the found property to help locate the individual resulting in a successful and safe conclusion to the investigation. Emergency officials appreciate the public’s ongoing commitment to their community and to the CodeRED system.
