Mapleton Adds Snow Emergency Language to Ordinance

The City of Mapleton has added language to its Snow Emergency to include a "Business District" snow emergency. Please read ordinance and information below carefully.

71.03 EMERGENCY/ SNOW EMERGENCY PARKING REGULATIONS.

(A) Definitions. For the purpose of this section, the terms:

(1) CITYWIDE EMERGENCY shall mean following a 2 inches or more snowfall until the snow has been plowed by the city from curb to curb or

(2) BUSINESS DISTRICT EMERGENCY shall mean any amount of snow in the business district which needs to be removed for safety this snow. This snow could include but not limited to: low amounts of snowfall, drifting or cleanup from previous snow removal.

(B) Declaration.

(1) Citywide- Upon the existence of an emergency as defined herein, the Police Department or City Administrator shall make an effort to notify the public. The emergency regulations set forth below shall become effective as soon as the city has 2 inches or more snow fall.

(2) Business District- Upon the existence of an emergency as defined herein, the Police Department or City Administrator shall make an effort to notify the public with a minimum of 4 hour notice prior to being effective.

(C) Unlawful acts.

(1) Citywide- During a citywide emergency, it is unlawful for any person, as driver or operator of a vehicle, or as the registered owner of such vehicle, to park, stop or leave standing, or cause, allow or permit to be parked, stopped or left standing, whether knowingly or unknowingly, any such vehicle upon any city street until the street is plowed curb to curb. Except parking is permitted on Main Street after snow has been piled in the middle of the road, as long as the parked vehicle does not hinder snow removal.

(2) Business District- During a business district emergency, it is unlawful for any person, as driver or operator of a vehicle, or as the registered owner of such vehicle, to park, stop or leave standing, or cause, allow or permit to be parked, stopped or left standing, whether knowingly or unknowingly, any such vehicle upon:

• Main Street from 1st Ave NW to MN Hwy 22

• 1st Ave NE, 2nd Ave NE and 3rd Ave NE from Silver St to Smith St.

• 1st Ave NW from Silver Street to Main St.



The emergency regulations set forth shall be effective from 1 A.M. to 6 A.M.

(D) Towing. Upon the existence of an emergency as defined above, the city may tow vehicles in violation of this section as authorized in M.S. § 169.041.

****Plan to have your vehicle on off street parking anytime is snows, if it is forecasted to snow or when you’re going to be out of town. These are good ways to prevent having your vehicle towed!****



The police department will attempt to notify residence when possible through Facebook, city email alerts and the cities electronic sign across from the Municipal Liquor Store.



In the event you are towed please contact Gartners Garage to recover your vehicle: (Please remember they are hired to do a job and they do not decide when or which vehicles are towed.)

2015/16 Winter Costs

Cost for Towing: $65.00 for the tow

$10/day for storage starting the 2nd day

Plus Tax.

Fine: $20.00



Towing and Fine costs will be paid to Gartner’s Garage before vehicle is released.
