Four people are behind bars in connection with a Wednesday night chase and manhunt in Marinette County.

The situation started when police tried to pull over a vehicle north of Crivitz. They say it matched the description given in a home burglary. But when police tried to pull the car over, they say the suspects sped up and started shooting at them.

The suspects crashed just north of Middle Inlet and ran off. According to Middle Inlet resident Steve Schmitz, who lives within a 1/2-mile south of the location where the suspects crashed, said he heard sirens, possibly guns going off and a car crash during the time of the chase.

Officials shut down about 10 miles of Hwy. 141 and evacuated nearby homes while they searched. Within three hours, they arrested two men without incident.
