Illinois Woman Died in Crash Near Middle Inlet

December 28, 2011
A 65-year-old Windtrop Harbor, Ill., woman was killed Dec. 21 in a crash on U.S. Highway 141, just south of Martin Road in the Town of Middle Inlet.

Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Sauve reported that Judith A. Hill was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner George Smith. Her son, Douglas R. Hill, 34, who was a passenger in the van, was treated for non-life threatening injuries at Bay Area Medical Center and released.

Hill and her son were injured when Hill's van crossed the centerline and collided with a semi-truck at about 9:35 a.m.

The operator of the semi, Danny E. Coloma, 33, Kaukauna, Wis. did not suffer any injuries.

County Dispatch received the call at 9:40 a.m. Investigation revealed that the semi was headed southbound while the van was northbound. The van crossed the centerline and collided almost head-on with the semi-truck.

Because of the crash, traffic had to be detoured for about four hours onto County Trunk X and Wisconsin 180 during cleanup of the accident scene.

Assisting the sheriff department at the scene were the Wausaukee, Wagner and Middle Inlet Fire Departments; Wausaukee Rescue Squad, Marinette County Highway Department, Marinette County Sheriffs Auxiliary, Coroner Smith and BAMC.

Investigation continues into the crash, which was the 13th traffic fatality for the county in 2011.
